The Centrifugal Spray Dryer is a continuous drying equipment that atomizes liquid feed through a high-speed centrifugal atomizer and instantly dries it in contact with hot air. It is one of the most widely used drying technologies in industrial production, especially suitable for drying solutions, emulsions, suspensions and paste materials into powder or granular products.

Working Principle

Air is filtered and heated to the set temperature, then enters the drying chamber uniformly in a spiral pattern through an air distributor at the top of the drying tower. The liquid feed is pumped to the high-speed centrifugal atomizer at the top of the tower (atomizer wheel speed typically 10,000 to 30,000 rpm). Under centrifugal force, the feed is thrown and atomized into extremely fine droplets (typically 10 to 100 μm in diameter) by the rapidly rotating atomizer wheel. The atomized droplets have an enormous specific surface area and come into contact with the hot air in co-current flow, completing moisture evaporation in a very short time (5 to 30 seconds) and drying into finished powder. The product is collected at the bottom of the drying tower and by a cyclone separator, while dust-laden exhaust air is filtered through a bag filter and discharged by an induced draft fan.

Structural Features

① The high-speed centrifugal atomizer is driven by a high-precision variable-frequency motor with stepless speed adjustment to accommodate different materials and product particle size requirements; atomizer wheels can be made of stainless steel, hard alloy or ceramic for wear and corrosion resistance;

② The air distributor features adjustable guide vanes to control hot air swirl direction and intensity, ensuring thorough contact between hot air and droplets while reducing wall buildup;

③ The drying tower body can be equipped with jacket insulation or heat tracing to prevent wall buildup caused by low wall temperature; the inner wall is mirror-polished with no dead corners for easy cleaning;

④ Optional wall sweeping system (air sweep device) and automatic rapping device further reduce wall buildup and improve product yield;

⑤ The collection system can be configured with cyclone separator + bag filter, or cyclone separator + wet scrubber to meet different environmental requirements;

⑥ Optional CIP (Clean-in-Place) system enables fully automatic cleaning, meeting food and pharmaceutical hygiene standards.

Technical Advantages

Extremely fast drying — after atomization, the surface area increases by thousands of times, evaporating 95% to 98% of moisture instantly;

especially suitable for heat-sensitive materials — although hot air temperature can be high (150 to 300°C), the actual material temperature does not exceed the wet-bulb temperature of the surrounding air due to evaporative cooling, ensuring good product quality;

products exhibit excellent dispersibility, flowability and solubility with good rehydration; simplified production process — solutions can be directly dried into powder products without subsequent evaporation, crystallization, filtration or pulverization;
