The Fluid Bed Dryer (also known as boiling dryer) is a high-efficiency batch drying equipment that uses hot air to bring material into a suspended, boiling (fluidized) state within the fluidized bed for drying. In the boiling state, material comes into full contact with hot air, achieving extremely high heat and mass transfer efficiency, fast drying speed and uniform temperature. It is widely used for drying granular and powder materials in pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries. Some models can be equipped with a spray system to perform drying, granulation and coating in one step (one-step granulator / fluid bed granulator-dryer).
Material is fed into the fluid bed drying chamber (boiling chamber) through the feed inlet. Filtered and heated clean hot air is supplied by a bottom fan, uniformly distributed through a distribution plate (perforated plate), and passes upward through the material bed. When the air velocity reaches the critical fluidization velocity of the material, the particles are lifted by the air flow and tumble up and down within the bed, entering a suspended boiling state (similar to liquid boiling). Particles collide and mix vigorously with each other and with the air flow, creating an enormous heat and mass transfer area. Moisture in the material evaporates rapidly and is carried away by the air flow. Moist air is discharged from the top, and entrained fine powder is recovered by a cyclone separator and bag filter before emission. After drying is complete, the material is discharged from the bottom outlet.
- The fluid bed main body consists of an upper cylinder (expansion section), middle cylinder (boiling/drying section) and lower cylinder (air inlet/plenum section). The upper cylinder has a larger diameter than the middle cylinder to reduce air velocity and minimize fine powder entrainment;
- The distribution plate (perforated plate) features a special perforated design ensuring uniform hot air distribution and stable fluidization, preventing material leakage and channeling; the plate is removable for cleaning and product changeover;
- The hot air system consists of pre-filter, medium-efficiency filter (or HEPA filter), heater (steam/electric/thermal oil) and supply fan, ensuring clean air with stable temperature entering the fluid bed;
- The exhaust system consists of induced draft fan, cyclone separator and bag filter for fine powder recovery and compliant emission;
- Optional top-spray system (binder solution) enables granulation during boiling drying, achieving mixing, granulation and drying in one step (one-step granulation); a bottom-spray system can also be configured for coating;
- Fully enclosed construction with internal/external mirror polishing and no dead corners, meeting GMP requirements; optional CIP system available;
- PLC + touch screen fully automatic control allows setting and recording of temperature, air volume, time and other process parameters for automated production.
- Extremely fast drying — material in boiling state has full contact with hot air, achieving high heat and mass transfer efficiency, with typical drying time of only 15 to 60 minutes (much faster than ovens);
