The Double Cone Mixer (also known as double cone blender or double cone rotary mixer) is a batch-type mixing equipment that uses a double-cone tank rotating around a horizontal axis to continuously tumble, diffuse and convect the material inside the tank for uniform mixing. With simple structure, uniform mixing, no dead corners and easy cleaning, it is widely used for mixing dry powders and granules in pharmaceutical, food, chemical and feed industries, especially suitable for mixing materials with similar ratios and small particle size differences.
The double-cone tank is formed by joining two conical cylinders (with a cylindrical section in the middle or directly joined). The tank is supported at both ends by rotating shafts and driven to rotate slowly around the horizontal axis by a transmission system (motor + reducer + sprocket/gear). Material is fed into the tank through the top feed inlet (typically filling 30% to 60% of tank volume). After closing the feed inlet, the motor is started and the tank begins to rotate. As the tank rotates, the material inside is continuously lifted, tumbled and showered, producing strong convection and diffusion movements under gravity and centrifugal force. The materials continuously exchange positions and permeate each other, and after a certain period of rotary mixing, the material reaches a uniformly mixed state. After mixing is complete, the tank is rotated until the discharge port faces downward, and the discharge valve is opened to discharge the finished product. Some models are equipped with a forced stirring paddle (breaking paddle) inside the tank for handling caking-prone or materials requiring dispersion.
- The tank is made of high-quality stainless steel (304/316L) plate rolled and welded, with mirror-polished inner wall, no dead corners, no residue, easy to clean and sterilize, meeting GMP requirements; the tank can be designed as jacketed type for cooling water or hot water to meet temperature-controlled mixing needs;
- The rotating shaft adopts solid or hollow shaft design, supported on the frame through bearing housings, with stable operation and low noise; the shaft end uses mechanical seal or packing seal to prevent dust leakage;
- The transmission system uses variable-frequency motor + reducer + sprocket/gear drive, with stepless speed adjustment (typically 5 to 20 rpm) to adapt to different material mixing requirements;
- The feed inlet is located at the top (or side) of the tank, using a quick-open manhole/feed inlet with silicone sealing ring for reliable sealing; the discharge outlet is located at the bottom (junction of the two cones), using a butterfly valve or ball valve for fast, clean and residue-free discharging;
- The frame is welded from section steel with stable structure, equipped with a protective cover for operational safety;
- Optional vacuum feeding system or screw feeder for dust-free feeding; optional vacuum suction or negative pressure discharge for dust-free discharging;
- Optional time relay or PLC control to set mixing time and automatic shutdown; optional interlock protection device to ensure the feed inlet and discharge outlet are closed before startup;
- Optional forced stirring device (breaking/dispersing paddle) inside the tank for caking-prone materials; optional spray device for liquid-added mixing.
- High mixing uniformity — tank rotation produces strong convection and diffusion movements, achieving mixing uniformity over 98% (for materials with similar ratios);
- Simple structure with no stirring blades (standard type), material is not subjected to shear and extrusion, suitable for mixing fragile and crystalline materials without destroying the original material form;
- No dead corners — double-cone structure and mirror-polished inner wall ensure no material residue and easy cleaning, meeting food and pharmaceutical hygiene requirements;
- Flexible filling volume — filling volume can be adjusted within 30% to 60% to adapt to different batch needs;
- Low energy consumption — rotary mixing requires low power with low operating cost;
- Easy operation and maintenance — simple equipment structure with few wear parts and low maintenance;
- Fully enclosed operation with no dust emission, improving operating environment;
- Optional temperature-controlled jacket, forced stirring, liquid spray and other devices to adapt to special process requirements.
Widely used in pharmaceutical (APIs, pharmaceutical excipients, herbal powder, tablet granules, capsule filling materials, powders, granules), food (milk powder, protein powder, seasonings, flavors and fragrances, food additives, meal replacement powder, cereal flour, solid beverages), chemical (pigments, dyes, plastic resins, pesticides, fertilizers, catalysts, detergents, cosmetic raw materials, ceramic powder), feed (feed raw materials, feed additives, premix, concentrated feed), building materials (ceramic raw materials, glass powder, insulation materials) and other (tobacco, gunpowder, metallurgical powder, rare earth materials) industries for mixing dry powders and granules.
